Announcement of Prior Qualification Screening for April Admission for Foreign Students to Tokyo Metropolitan High Schools for 2023

On the day of screening the qualification of applicants for “the selection of foreign students for April admission” interpretors of different languages will be available.  No reservation is required. Foreign junior high school students who attend junior high schools 3rd grade in Tokyo are also encouraged to participate.

Please keep the following in mind to prevent the spread of a new coronavirus infection.

  • Come with the minimum number of people ( One attendant for each applicant is accepted.)
  • Wear a mask
  • Disinfect your fingers at the entrance
  • Maintain social distancing  ( Keep a certain distance )
  • Refrain from loud speaking
  • Refrain from coming if you are not feeling well or if you have a fever

1 Date and Venue

  • (1) Date & Time: 4th December (Sunday), 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    Place: Tokyo Metropolitan Government Main Building No1 Main Conference Hall (5th Floor)
    Address: 2-8-1 Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo
  • (2) Date & Time: 18th December (Sunday), 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    Place: Tokyo Metropolitan Government Main Building No1  Main Conference Hall (5th Floor)
    Address: 2-8-1 Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo
  • ※ Before going to the venue, please get an entrance badge (blue colored) from a staff member in front of the North side elevator on the 1st floor of Tokyo Metropolitan Government Main Building No 1.
  • ※ Applicants must arrive at the venue mentioned in (1) and (2) no later than 4:00 p.m.
  • ※ If you cannot attend on either of the days, please call the number from <Contact us> at the end of announcement.

2 Applicant Eligibility

Applicants must be foreign nationals and have an address in Tokyo with a parent or guardian. Applicants must have an address in Tokyo by the time they enter high school and be able to commute to school from Tokyo after entering high school. In addition, applicants must meet  any of the fconditions (1) ~ (4) indicated below:

  • (1) should be expected to graduate from a junior high school by the end of March, 2023, with the duration of residence in Japan being within 3 years after entering Japan as of the date of admission.
    However, among those who are more than three years after entering the country on 2020 March 1st will be judged to be within three years of enrollment date after entering the country.
  • (2) already graduated from a junior high school with the duration of residence in Japan being within 3 years after entering Japan as of the date of admission.
  • (3) will complete or already have completed a course equivalent to 9 years of compulsory education in Japan at the school for foreign students in Japan by the end of March, 2023.
  • (4) will complete or already have completed education at the school in a country where an applicant lives by the end of March, 2023.

3 Languages and times available for interpretation:

English, Chinese, Korean, Tagalog, Nepalese, Spanish, and Thai. 7 languages totally.

to 4:30 p.m.

Spanish, Thai, Korean from 1:00 p.m.

Interpretation in other languages may also be available. Please contact us by November 21 . (Refer to “Contact us”)

4 What to bring

Please prepare the following documents:

  • (1) Application form to confirm elegibility in advance for selection foreign students living in Tokyo (Write either in Japanese or English.)
  • (2) Certificate of residence (”Juminhyō kisaijiko shomeishō”)(according to the form style3). Please get this document on and after December 1, 2022.
  • (3) Official document issued by a public institution proving foreign nationality (e.g. Residence Card, Passport etc.)
  • ※ Please be sure to bring both your residence card and passport (new and old) so that we can verify your period of stay in Japan after entering the country.
  • (4) Documents that apply to the "School you are enrolled" in the table below.
  • ※ Please make a copy of each certifying document.
