Announcement of Prior Qualification Screening for April Admission of Foreign Students to Tokyo Metropolitan High Schools for 2026

On the date of confirming the eligibility of applicants who wish to be tested to be selected as foreign students and Others for April admission, interpreters of different languages will be available. If you wish to be tested to be selected as a foreign or other eligible student for April admission, please participate. Also please reserve a spot to help us avoid crowding.

1 Date and Venue

10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (Applicants must arrive no later than 12:00 noon.)
1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Applicants must arrive no later 4:00 p.m.)
※ December 21 is for applicants who came on November 30 or December 14 and for whom eligibility could not be confirmed.

  • Before going to the venue, please get an entrance badge (blue) from a staff member in front of the north side elevator on the 1st floor of Tokyo Metropolitan Government Main Building No 1.

2  Dates and times available for making reservations

  10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
November 30(Sun.) (If the number of reservations exceeds 100, “too many reservations” is displayed.) (If the number of reservations exceeds 150, “too many reservations” is displayed.)
December 14(Sun.) (If the number of reservations exceeds 100, “too many reservations” is displayed.) If the number of reservations exceeds 150, “too many reservations” is displayed.)

To avoid crowding, reservations are required.

December 21 is for applicants who came on November 30 or December 14 and for whom eligibility could not be confirmed. Therefore, no reservation is required for this date.

3  Applicant Eligibility

Applicants must have an address in Tokyo with a parent or guardian. Applicants must have an address in Tokyo by the time they enter high school and be able to commute to school from Tokyo after entering high school. In addition, applicants must meet one of the following four conditions and require Japanese language guidance:

*Those who are applying to Hitotsubashi High School, Asakusa High School, Ogikubo High School, or Sunagawa High School must live or work in Tokyo. They do not need to have the same address as their guardian.

  1.  The applicant, who can be of any nationality, will graduate from a junior high school by the end of March of 2026, and their duration of residence in Japan will be within three years of entering Japan as of the date of admission.
  2. The applicant, who can be of any nationality, has already graduated from a junior high school, and their duration of residence in Japan will be within three years of entering Japan as of the date of admission
  3. The applicant, who can be of any nationality, will complete their education at a school in their home country by the end of March of 2026 or has already completed it.
  4. The applicant, who must be of non-Japanese nationality, will complete a course equivalent to nine years of compulsory education in Japan at a school for foreign students in Japan by the end of March of 2026 or has already completed such a course.
  • Any applicant who enters Japan on or after January 1, 2023, will be judged as residing in Japan for within three years on the date of admission.

4 Languages and times available for interpretation:

Seven languages total: English, Chinese, Korean, Tagalog, Nepalese, Spanish, and Thai.

*1 If the applicant is currently living outside of Tokyo but will live in Tokyo by the date of high school enrollment, it is necessary to submit an Application Approval Form (shutsugan shonin shinseisho) (form 1).
 Note that those who are applying to Hitotsubashi High School, Asakusa High School, Ogikubo High School, or Sunagawa High School and do not currently live in Tokyo but do currently work there must submit documentation as proof of their employment

*2 It is necessary to submit a Petition to Return to One’s Home Country, etc. (kikoku to ni kansuru moshitatesho) (form 5).

  • Please download the application form to confirm eligibility in advance for selection of foreign students living in Tokyo from the link below, and then write it in either Japanese or English.
  • Please get the certificate of residence (form 3) on or after November 20.
  • Please be sure to bring both your residence card and passport (new and old) so that we can verify your period of stay in Japan after entering the country.
  • A residence card with a renewal date indicated on it cannot be used to verify your period of stay in Japan.
  • Please make a copy of each certifying document.
